I am working with photoshop 7, and my question concerns color of the starting photos I am working with upon opening Photoshop. All my photographs on my computer have a Yellow/greenish hue to them upon opening them in photoshop. This makes it difficult to make adjustments to Levels of any kind because of this misrepresentation of the proper color to begin with.
when the same photos are opened in a picture viewer for instance the begining color is mor of a "Real" representation. I have tried working with it but my finished pics dont look the way I would really want them to look when I am done with them and I view them out of Photoshop. are there some filters or settings that are not correct in Photoshop that is causing this problem for me………..HELP!!!!!!

The problem may be due to different color pickers between the two programs and a faulty Adobe Gamma setting. If you go to Edit> Preferences>General, I bet your color picker is Adobe. The Picture Viewer probably uses Windows, assuming you’re using a PC.

I would recommend first adjusting the Adobe Gamma settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, try switching the color picker to Windows. The second one may be easier, but it would still be my second choice of options

As for the photos, I would try to adjust the color before adjusting the levels. One thing you might want to try is to copy the image into a new layer by dragging the layer to the new layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette, and then use the "auto" features under Image>Adjustments. Photoshop has Auto Levels, Auto Contrast and Auto Color. These can do a surprisingly good job on descent photos, especially if you’re not familiar or comfortable with manual adjustments. Save the file, but with a unique name, as a JPG or PNG, a file type that is still viewable in the Picture viewer you’re using. Open the new version in the picture viewer and see how it looks. If it looks much to red (magenta really), then your Gamma settings may be off. At least there is a discrepancy between the two color pickers. Try opening the images in a browser and see if the colors changes still show. Do this by right clicking on the file and choosing "Open with."

If none of this works, at least you still have the unaltered original image in the bottom layer/
