How to get rid of dust and scratches

The photo that I scanned has too many dust and small scratches. I tried the noise filter and the healing brush.

The noise filter reduces the image’s sharpness in the process and it removes good small spots as if they were dust. So I feel it’s not a good tool for my purpose.

The healing brush is better. I have better control and I can get the result I want if I keep on trying and undo. So healing brush is what I use to get rid of dust and scratches. However, it takes a long time for a mere 4 by 6 inch photo. And I have hundreds of them. So I wonder if there is a better method to get rid of dust and scratches on photos in less time?

Clean the photos and rescan them. It won’t help with the scratches, but this should completely eliminate the dust. 🙂

I take it you have a digital camera….
If so just take a shot of the picture outdoor on an overcast day and voila…….

Clean the photos and rescan them. It won’t help with the scratches, but this should completely eliminate the dust. 🙂
There is no such thing as completely eliminating the dust, but clean the photo and scanner the best you can.
