Software: Adobe Photoshop 7 and Photoshop CS
Printer: Epson 1270
Dell PC, Windows XP Professional, 512 MB of RAM, 20 GB left on hard drive, Video card (I think?) is 128M DDR ATI RDN 9700 TX W/TV out and DVI

Problem: When I try to use color management via the "Print with Preview" option, the dialogue box "Print Space:Profile" does not list any paper profiles as options.

Epson says the profiles are included in the drivers but I can’t find them. I’ve downloaded the newest drivers (10064.exe and 10065.exe) from the epson website, uninstalled my printer and reinstalled it with these drivers. But to no avail. And I don’t see any .icc or .icm files in my downloads.

1.Exactly where can I get the color profiles for Epson Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper, Premium Glossy Photo Paper and Double-sided Matte Paper (all by Epson)?

2.Once I have the profiles, how can I get them to appear in the Photoshop "Print with Preview" dialog box so that I can select them?

Thank you for any help you can give me! – Marianne

Take a look at Ian Lyons’ site. This page has downloadable profiles for the 1270, but perhaps not the double sided Matte paper.
< http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7_print/ps7_print_mac_3c. htm> .

Profile locations:-

Windows 98, 98 Second Edition and Me – folder named windows/system/color

Windows 2000 and XP – sub-folder named system32/spool/drivers/color

Mac OS9.x – ColorSync profiles are located in the System Folder/ColorSync Profiles folder

Mac OSX – ColorSync profiles are located in the Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder

You should be able to find them (if they are installed) in Print Space, in Print with Preview. Be sure you have the "Show More Options" box checked. That will get you to the pull down menu from which you select your printing options under "Print Space" Look carefully for the profiles. If you cannot find them, they are not installed properly, or at all.

Marianne,

I don’t recall getting my 1270 profiles from Ian’s website, but must’ve, as I sure can’t find the files on the installation CD yet I do have the same files which Ian provides. Either that, or the files get extracted from some less-than-obvious installation file. In any case, Ian’s collection of profiles does include the profiles for the Premium Glossy Photo Paper and Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper.

In addition to the profiles Ian provides, you may also want to download the 10025 file from Epson, for their 1270 ColorLife Paper profile. I use ColorLife a lot, and while it does give settings for use with the Glossy Film profile, it’s easier to use the Epson-specific ColorLife profile.

Apart from that, check any inserts that came with the papers you use, to see if they provide instructions on what alternate paper profiles to choose if you don’t have the specific profile for that paper. For example, I’d bet the double-sided matte paper would print well with the Matte Heavyweight Paper profile. I have some PremiereArt Matte Scrapbook Photo Paper which is also double-sided, and its insert specifies use of the Matte Heavyweight profile. You can even select that profile then resave it with a new name if you like, for future use.

I’ve used some Mirage art papers that provide inserts describing which Epson profile to use for their media, and again I’ve had good results. So, don’t ignore those inserts. 🙂

These ICC profiles are intended to be used within a color management system such as Apple’s ColorSync, Microsoft’s ICM, or Adobe application software. Instructions are included with each profile download that explains how to install and use these profiles within Adobe Photoshop 7.0 for both Macintosh and Windows operating systems.
