H,
Is it possible to make the center of the Photoshop canvas snap-to- able? I would like to be able to use the canvas center as a point of reference but apparently Smart Guides do not snap to it and even placing guides is a pain in that the only way I have found to center them is to use the ‘info’ palette. Does anyone know of a way to easily locate the center of the canvas without using the grid and preferably without using guides?

Thanks,
Ron

No, but when I needed to do that I wrote an action that put 2 guides (one horizontal, one vertical) at 50%.

Even setting the origin of the rulers to the centre of the canvas doesn’t help.

For guides, you can enter a position 50% to get them half way.

Hi, Derek,
Very good suggestion, I have to think in terms of Actions more often. I saved it as a part of my normal workspace.

Thanks,

Hi Andrew,
Somehow I never noticed the New Guide option. I learned early, probably by accident, that new guides could be added by dragging from the rulers and never tried another way.
Thanks for the tip,
Ron

An aside – if you are working with layers and shapes you have several Align features available.
