is there any possibility that your lif-file is corrupted? do you’ve tried another lif-file with xnview?

Could you give us more to work with, such as where the image is from? I tried running it through NConvert (which can convert oodles of file types) and it can’t read it. Is it possible that your LIF file is corrupted?

So tell us, what is the meaning of LIF?
(sorry. couldn’t resist)

Image is from some prog with image database.
meaning of LIF is that I must use that files
in new program and I must find way to convert.
I think maybe is some compression used in files.
I there someone who konws something about compressing?

Sorry. XnView lists .lif (HomeWorld Texture) as a file it opens but sometimes other programs use the same extensions for their own file formats. Do you know what program created the file? I have not been able to find any info on .lif files.

The ‘Filext’ reference site
http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=LIF&goButton= Go

Gives the following … that may (or may not) be useful.

Extension: LIF

Homeworld Layered Image Format File
http://homeworld.sierra.com/hw/

System Extension Info
FILExt has been given permission to display the file
extension database produced by the Associate This! program. Some of that data has already been included into the main FILExt database; but, not all. Those entries which have not yet been incorporated are shown below in the hope that they will be of some use. Be aware this is raw data which may require further research on your part to fully understand.

ProgramID GraphicsConverterPro.lif
FileType HomeWorld Texture
AppName GraphicsConverter-reg
EXEFile GraphicsConverter.exe

Need more information about this entry? Try a Google search using terms in the above table along with words like
"format," "convert," "conversion," and even "hacking." A search box is provided here for your convenience.

Well, that’s still pretty vague. "Some prog" could be anything!

Anyway, after looking at the file in a hex viewer, I agree that it looks compressed. In fact I found several sites that refer to a .LIF file as being compressed. But still, without knowing a bit more about where it came from it will be very difficult (if not impossible) to decompress it.
