Using Monaco EZ color, lots and lots of time, paper and ink I finally made a printer profile that worked reasonably well.
I recently discovered that the company I buy my paper from (Red River), provides printer specific profiles for each of the papers they sell. I downloaded some of their drivers and the printed results were great, much closer to the Photoshop screen then the profile I was able to make.

The only problem is that when I print a "screen profile" prior to printing on the paper, the screen image looks way too pink when using the profile I downloaded from Red River. However it prints to the paper GREAT, much closer to what I see in the normal working Photoshop screen than the results I get with my Monaco home-made profile. HOWEVER, the screen PREVIEW I get with the home-made profile matches the resulting image perfectly.

I know the obvious thing to do is to use the Red River profile that results in great prints and simply ignore the pink screen preview.

It’s just that this is so counter intuitive, I wonder if someone can explain it to me?

I’m using a PC and my screens have been calibrated using Monaco and their colorimeter. My printer is the Epson 2200.

Thanks for any opinons,

Dave
