Just got a new Dell Optiplex P4-3.0GHZ with 1GB of RAM, WinXP Pro. Installed Photoshop 3 but when I try to run the program I get an error message stating: there is not enough memory (RAM) to launch the program. It ran fine on my old NT box with 128MB and on my last machine which was a WinXP 2.0GHZ Pentium with 512MB. I’m guessing that Photoshop 3.0 doesn’t know how to address 1GB of ram. Anyone know of a workaround? I’m really not ready to upgrade as I use it infrequently to tweak some low res photos of construction work etc. Thanks, Steve

Common topic here..dunno if it’s in the FAQs or not.

I believe the issue is that PS 3 code just can’t handle over (512MB?) RAM, even trying to run it in compatibility mode. Or maybe it’s the type of RAM also, haven’t kept up.

If you don’t want to spring $150 for upgrade, then get Elements for about $30-50 after rebates. It’s ten times the capablility of 3 anyway. Bout the only thing it won’t do that 3 will is work with 16 bit files.

Actually, come to think of it, would PS3 work with 16 bit files? Heck, WERE there 16bit files then?

Okey dokey…then Elements really *would* run circles around ver 3 for just about everything but possible CMYK output as far as OP’s needs.

Mac,

just about everything but possible CMYK output <<

LE versions don’t support ‘advanced colour spaces’ such as CMYK and L*a*b, so Elements wins hands down
