On a olympus board I use, somebody posted that they had just downloaded a Adobe Raw plug-in for PS7, that was a better plug-in than the one olympus provides. Does anybody know where I can download it? I can find CS everywhere, but not one for PS7

I think they discontinued Adobe Camera Raw 1.0 (ACR1) when CS was released. ACR1 was 99 bux iirc. If you own PS and it’s that important to you, you can get improved functionality and camera support in ACR2 AND all the cool new features in CS for 169 or less.

I agree with Dave. If you are planning on spending $99 anyway, then you would be getting the upgrade to PSCS for only $50 more, and the camera raw function in CS has a lot more features than the one for version 7.

I belong to the Olympus 405080 group, and a lot of the members opted to wait for the next version of Photoshop since they knew it would contain the plugin. Those who have both versions all spoke about how much better the CS version was. It has a lot more features in it. I don’t remember off hand what the added features were, but I think two which might have been mentioned as not being in the version 7 plugin were the ability to correct CA and the thing to remove vignetting.

Oh, I thought the Adobe RAW plug-in was a free download, much like the PS plugin I downloaded a from the Olympus website, but it doesn’t give you too much control. How much control does CS give you?

I read an article not too long ago which in a nutshell said, your camera manufacture software will do a better job adjusting a RAW file than PS would. Their theory was that Olympus understands their algorithims more so than Adobe, and Adobe is trying to service all the camera manufactures.

Just how much can you do with CS. I keep hearing that CS offers RAW support, but can people tell me if the CS is as good as the software your camera provides at making actual adjustments to your file?
I bought my first Digital, a Olympus 5060 to learn on, then hand down to the wife when I can afford a Digital SLR. The software that came with it doesn’t do too much.

As of right now, I’m not sure CS even supports my camera, I know it does the 5050, but not sure about the 5060

Just not sure if the CS upgrade is worth it, I like PS7, it does all that I want so far.

There’s an entire forum here that deals with ACR issues. You’d probably get lots of good advice there:
