Hi, I am a photographer about to get a new PC and would love to have some idea on what to look for to run CS2 as quickly and efficiently as possible.
It’s currently taking ages to even load my photos on my old PC and so I am hoping to increase my speed and performance.
The only posts I can find about this tend to be 4 or 5 years old, so I’m hoping someone can help me with what I should look for today for optimum speed, graphics etc. so that I can go to Dell or similar and order. Any and all help is really appreciated!

Thanks,

Lynn

Hi Lynn,
What is the sensor size of your camera? What kind of photography do you do?

Thanks,
Ron

I can’t say anything about new PCs because mine is now almost 5 years old, BUT I recently added a 1GB card which bumped the ram from 768KB to
1.5GB (had to replace a 256KB with a 1GB) and this made a profound
difference in the speed. For most graphic applications the more ram the better.
My cpu runs at a mere 1.8GHz but is quite fast enough with the extra ram, so any new m/c with enough ram should do the job OK. No doubt there’ll be some dissension though.

1.) Lots of fast HHD space (PS will use all of the Scratch Disk you can throw at it.)
1a.) Plenty of RAM (whatever your OS + MoBo will allow is best)
2.) Fast processor(s)
3.) At least a mid-range vid card, with at least 128MB VRAM (don’t really need any more for PS)
4.) RAID 5 array for the storage of image files
5.) Besides the RAID, a good backup scheme, which may include other HDDs, DVDs, or tape (redundancy is your friend)
6.) Dual large monitors that can be colo(u)r calibrated (bigger is better and 2, or more, is better still)

Beyond that, it’s pretty much up to you and your budget, as to what you want. I’m not going into any specs, as they will differ from availability in US vs UK. Others probably can tell you the exact items, with part #’s, etc., that you will want, but above is the wish list, prioritized.

I just bought a new computer with 2gb Ram, a dual core processor , and a 256 graphics card and CS2 runs super fast.

Buy as powerful as you can afford.

I have a AMD Dual Core With A gig of ram and dual monitors and multiple drives.

The faster the better – but RAM and drive space are also two key factors as is the power of your video card.
