Hi shoppers,

Now I have some experience in ‘improving’ photographs in Photoshop (Thanks to own experiments and Scott Kelby’s book (on 7)), I think I have to know more.

A search on the Internet (Amazon and some PS-dedicated sites) it turns out that Fraser’s & Blatner’s Real World Photoshop CS, and Haynes’s Adobe Photoshop Artistry are equally high appreciated.

My question is, if it is worthwhile to have the two books next to each other, or if there is a giant overlap between the two.
My primary aim is improving photographs and some retouching, but if there are more graphic details 😉 I wouldn’t mind.

I hope someone can tell me.

Thanks in advance.

Best,

I have PS 6 Artistry and it is a very good book. For my money, the best color correction manual I’ve come across is Dan Margulis’ Professional Photoshop. It focuses on this issue only and does a very thorough job. These two books complement each other quite well. As for Real World, I haven’t read it.

You can never have too many Photoshop books 🙂

And both of those are good. If you want a more tutorial approach, go for the Artistry book – it’s excellent at that. The Real World Series is more aimed at people who can do everything that’s in the Artistry book already.

Or too much beer! 🙂

No one book has it all. If you are a beginner you might want to start off with one. Then grab a big shopping cart of ’em once you are getting more adventurous.

Thanx for your help. I think my question about the overlap is answered, although indirectly 🙂

The problem is that I can’t take a real shopping cart since I live in the Netherlands, and stores overhere haven’t got all those books in stock, and if they do at ridiculous prices (1 $ = 2 Euro). So I depend on Amazon, but they don’t give me an intuitive feel like browsing should.

So, I take the risk and go for safety in numbers: Artistry AND Real World. I am grateful, and so are the publishers :-)))
