I’m sure this has been asked a million times but is there any relatively simple way of converting black and white to colour? I tried painting on the colours but it was a disaster! Yet I have seen stuff way back which looked brilliant…..if it was for real. So, anybody able to suggest something? t’anks

That’s the rub. You can do smart things with Photoshop, but Photoshop cannot make you smart.

Try Google.com for the answers – there are lots of good free tutorials.

But all the ones I have read basically give you instructions/tips for painting the color.

That’s right.

The original question is "is there any relatively simple way of converting black and white to colour?". It is a simple task to paint in the color. Simple, long and possibly boring.

Your unstated question is, "Is there an AUTOMATIC way to convert B&W to color?".

I have not seen any automatic way of doing this.

I’m replying to myself here but I hope someone can advise. I have found a program for colorising and having experimented with the trial version for the past half hour, I am pretty impressed. Anybody familiar with it at all? It’s called "BlackMagic".

It looks like you found a pretty nifty little program!
The price is dirt cheap, very nice.

I wish that the results were better.

But evidently you took the time to not to answer, only to cynically pass comment.

Nothing better to do?

Mildly feathered selections in combination with various adjustments–color, hue, saturation, variations, brightness, contrast, etc., can produce good results. 6 Tylenol Night Time Capsules and a shot of Jack Daniels works too!

I got him his answer by directing him where to go – and he found "Blackmagic". Cool beans.

You got in a huff and would neither help him nor let it slide that I pointed him to Google.

The,

I should probably put my portfolio site back up. I lost the server space it was on. I have a partially finished one that IS up. It deals with Photoshop and ImageReady and how to animate a single photograph using Photoshop/ImageReady:

Photoshop Lesson #4 is a hoot–the Liquify Tool! No ImageReady lessons exist yet and I haven’t worked on this site in quite a while.

http://home.comcast.net/~corey_cowan/wens_class/html/index.h tm

Some of the sites I’ve built for others include:

www.forevervampires.com
www.rosemarylaurey.com
www.metsyhingle.com
www.humor-bytes.com

http://flightline.highline.edu/bsoderman/index.htm (A site co-created with a friend. Paula created a template in Dreamweaver, I assembled the pages, added content, made links, embedded video, made Flash promo, etc. )

CafePress sites using my Photoshop-created graphics:

www.cafepress.com/carlyphillips
http://www.cafepress.com/janelledenison

You’re right. I should have a personal site. They just seem so impersonal. 😉

Do you have a personal site? If so, please send a link. My e-mail link works in case you don’t want to post it for those not worthy.

I like Steve’s cat animation.

Viking Cats???? I saw the "Gay Bar" one.

Here’s the Led Zeppelin version: http://www.vikingkittens.com/

I used symbols in Illy CS for both, and the perspective technique is from "Adobe Illustrator CS Creative Studio". That’s a great book!

One of my fav tricks is sitting down at Barnes & Noble with a stack of promising books and whittling the pile down to one good book. If the price is right, I but it. If not, there’s Amazon.
