I am just getting started in working with digital photography and adobe and am having a few little problems.
how do i merge multiple pictures into one image? Such as the case of composing a panoramac shot out of multiple pictures.

There is not "one click" solution. To what you are referring requires the use of layers among other tools and techniques such as selecting, cropping, opacity, etc etc.. the list goes on and on…

PhotoshopCS has Photomerge under File – Automate which does this.

If you don’t have CS, do a web search for Photoshop Panorama tutorial. There are also a couple free utilities to help you achieve the effect.
