I’m using Photoshop 7 and Save As is not doing what it used to do?

I save files as filename.tif and then I use the Save As Command and save the same file as filename.jpg. Used to, when I did this, the file was saved as a filename.jpg but now it’s saved as filename.tif.jpg.

What setting has changed?

JD..

The one made by the operator.

If you want to save as a Tiff, then use the File Type Drop Down in the "Save As" Dialogue.

That’s exactly what I do. What Photoshop used to do was change the file extension from .tif to .jpg. Now Photoshop changes the file extension from .tif to .tif.jpg. Photoshop used to see everything before the . as the file name, now it sees everything so photo.tif, using Save As and selecting .jpg, becomes photo.tif.jpg.

Unfortunately the "cure" is not an easy one.

I wonder if anyone has tried simply Restoring to a point before the Tweak UI setting was changed. Might be worth a try.

This all began after I did an XP update and did four Acrobat Pro updates. I removed all those updates, did a system restore to before the problem started and ran the System File Checker and nothing fixed the problem.

I have Tweak UI but the setting was not changed. Enable AutoComplete was checked. I unchecked it and tried Photoshop, no change, rechecked it and tried Photoshop, no change.

Sounds like Adobe wants me to update my Photoshop? Guess I’ll learn to remove the .ext before I use Save As. I can use Save As in IrfanView, XnView and MS Paint and it works like it’s supposed to.

I’m not going to reinstall my OS.

Thanks for the link edjh. At least I know I’m not the only one with this problem.

Did you try trashing/resetting Preferences? Might work.

JD..

If you are using 7.0 without the 7.01 update you will experience other save issues as well
download that patch and install manually
seem to recall it does not like the auto update thing

Been there, done that. Didn’t fix it.
