cheapest place to get PS 7?

Hey gang,

I have tons of software I’ve purchased at full retail for the macs I use in my business, but I’d like to get a copy of PS 7 for my dad (Win XP version) as I’ve taught him a fair bit about PS and he actually is enjoying it as a hobby in retirement. He doesn’t need PS CS, and I don’t need to spend full price on what’s now an aging product. (I actually prefer 7 to CS in so many ways since it’s OS X only on the mac side…Adobe has really betrayed it’s loyal fan base with CS I feel, but that’s another story for all of us unhappy about the RAM performance in the OS X version.)

Anyone have any ideas? I only want a legal copy, but I don’t want to over-spend. 🙂

Might he be happy enough with Elements?

Lots of bang-for-the-buck there.

About the only place you will find a cheap version of older software is on e-Bay. The problem is that 99% of the listings there are for illegal copies. They will be listed as backup copies, OEM versions, etc. Only buy if you find someone who says they are selling because they no longer use the program, or won it in a contest, or something similar. You cannot even buy legally from someone who has upgraded to CS … the licence remains with the new version.

If in doubt, ask if you will be able to register the software with Adobe. That generally is the key that scares the pirates away.
