Greetings All,
I have never posted to a forum before, so I hope I’m doing this correctly. I currently CS, and took portraits of my daughter using an Olympus C-3020 3.2 MP digital camera in uncompressed TIFF mode. Although she’s very beautiful as is, she felt I should remove a small blemish here and there. I did so, then changed the image size to 8 X 10 inches (the desired finished size, then saved the file as a TIFF (to maintain the original untouched) without compression.
The original file is 1536 X 2048 pixels, 21.333 X 28.444 inches, 9.233 MB. The saved file is 576 X 786 pixels, 8.0 X 10.667 inches, 1.313 MB.
When I took the reduced file to one of those Kodak kiosk things, it said something about the file not having enough information to print at the 8 X 10 size correctly. I cancelled the printing, went home and made a copy of the original as it was, made corrections to it, and saved it full-sized.
This printed just fine!
I now know to not reduce the image during editing, just print it as it is. Because I have the PS CS Bible by Deke McClelland, I also know there is a direct correlation between pixel size, file size, print resolution, etc. But for some reason the concept of size and such eludes me.
Can someone please shed some light on this for me (and I’ll bet many others). A nice, big, searchlight might do.
Thanks so much in advance, sorry for being long-winded.
