Hi,

I am a newbie and I would like to make a black backgroud on a portrait picture. Is the only solution is to cut the model an then put it over a black background. I find that solution doesn’t do a real good job. I would appreciate a lot if you could point me a good website that explain in details the procedure.

Thanks for your help

No matter what technique you use, you must make a very precise selection of the subject and the best way to do that is with an alpha channel mask. There is a nice tutorial here–

http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html

Scroll down to the last tutorial on the page and download it to your computer. It is a quicktime movie file.

Be aware that this is a general tutorial and your results will depend very much on your subject, background and contrast between the two.

Good luck!
