How make tranparent background?

Hi, I have a picture cut and pasted on to a new photoshop file with transparent background. and then save it as .jpg or .png file. However, when place this .jpg or .png file on an Illustrator, the backgroud is not transparent. How can make it tranparent?

JPG does not support transparency. PNG does but not when transferred to Illustrator. Trust me on this one. I created a lot of extra work for myself by making PNG files that I needed to be imported into Illustrator. Save files with transparencies going to Illustrator in either Photoshop or TIFF formats. You’ll save yourself a lot of grief. GIF and PNG files with transparencies are perfect for the web.
