Christopher,
I have the exact same problem. I quess I would like to know wether the problem is :
a) My video card (not able to access look up tables)
b) My monitor (not likely)
c) System software (maybe a conflict with another program)
I hope someone knowledgeable can respond to this problem before I go and buy a new card or monitor out of frustration.
Thanks, Don
I think it’s an inability of the pc to communicate with the video LUT ( for whatever reason ). In the past, it has sometimes been possible to re-establish the link by changing your video settings ( screen res, color depth ) and get the sliders back to being functional. We have seen this on and off over the last 5 years, I know. I’ve never heard of a "firm" fix for it and most people never encounter the problem ( I have ! ).

I had a card that where it only worked in 256 colour desktop mode. Try it.
Sounds like this could be the problem.
Indy911 "ATI Catalyst drivers and Adobe Gamma" 4/8/04 12:28am </cgi-bin/webx?50>
ATI is no longer supporting color calibration? I never would have imagined this. I didn’t even know it was a function of the drivers. No doubt this is my problem as I am running the latest ATI Catalyst drivers. Well, back to the earlier versions. Thanks for the help.
Christopher
Hmm, Adobe Gamma will work with 256 colors as suggested by Brent and Hot-Denim. But switching back to True color was no help.
Also, I have a Aopen Video card with a SIS6326 chip so the ATI situation doesn’t apply to my problem.
Question? Since it will work with 8bit(256 color) resolution but not with the 16bit (true color) is this pointing to a problem with the video card going south?
Thanks
Don
No, it points to bugs in your video card driver.
Chris or Anyone,
How do I reinstall the driver from my XP Disk? I could not locate it on the disk by just browsing.
Thanks, Don
Don,

You don’t want to. Go to your video card manufacturer’s web site and check for updated drivers there.
LenHewett,
They don’t have an XP driver on there site. They reccommmend allowing the XP operating system to install the driver. But the driver on my computer may be corrupted, so I would like to install it from the XP installation disk but don’t know how to.
thanks, Don
Right click My Computer – Hardware – Device Manager. Find the graphics card in the list and double click it – then you have a range of choices. You could try uninstalling and restarting and seeing what Win will find or you could go update the driver and point to the Win CD etc etc.
Where on the CD disk do I point? If I just ask it to find driver on CD drive it can’t find it.
Don
i386 folder.

Chris;
Bugs or no-support ?. Do all cards support this feature even older generic 4MB 2D cards ?..

look for an i386 folder, under there look for drivers.
Dave,
I don’t see a subdirectory called ‘drivers’. There are a number of driver files, one of which is sis6326.in_ (the one I need), but it will not open. I suppose because it is a compressed file. Is there a way to uncompress it and then install it?
Don
Just an update to let you all know how it worked out. I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst 4.3 driver, reinstalled the 4.1 driver, and Adobe Gamma is now working!
Christopher
me too. ๐
chris, see this post:
dave milbut "ATI Catalyst drivers and Adobe Gamma" 4/12/04 5:28am </cgi-bin/webx?13/8>
and make sure to write to ati to tell them how this new color mgmt scheme of theirs stinks! tell them how much downtime you had too!
Denim – it’s a bug (a "marketing made a bad decision" bug, but still a bug)
Don’t worry, I have already submitted my opinion to ATI regarding this issue. I have also informed them that I do not intend to purchase their graphics cards in the future so long as the current situation remains. (At least not for computers on which I will be using Photoshop.)
I’m so glad now that I have an nVidia card in my newest computer.
Hmm, there’s a thread in here somewhere that discusses nVidias less than stellar behavior with Adobe Gamma
Not on the more recent NVIDIA cards (5200 and 5600). Don’t know about the latest batch.
I think I see a market for my old G400 ! <G> $$$$
brent,
Unless your’s is the top line (then) one with 32 meg. on the card, they may prefer mine. <G>
Iยดm using an nVidia Gforce MX450 (or something like that) on my Dell laptop. Adobe gamma does not load properly, or is overruled by nVidias latest drivers.
Bill,
I’m pretty sure I never used all 16 MB of my video ram, anyway.
