I have additional questions about the upgrade. What information do you need to provide to qualify for the upgrade? Do you need a license key number from a previous version that you send to Adobe to activate it? I don’t have any of the original packaging from version 7, so if it is not viewable in the software, I can’t provide it.
If your eligible for academic pricing you’d be crazy not to take advantage of it. The suite is an absolute steal. It includes everything the full retail package has except some clip art and templates.
As for Pagemaker, it’s a deadend application and isn’t included in the suite. InDesign is lighyears ahead of it.

Bob, thanks for your advice. I know a business owner who got one of his employees to purchase the academic version for him and he seems pleased with the purchase; but I wanted another opinion.
That sounds quite illegal. While Adobe does not restrict the use of Academic software, it does require the purchase to be for academic use when purchased.

It may have been for academic purpose when she bought it and then she gave (or sold) it to him when she went to work there. He didn’t give specifics.
Since I use Pagemaker, would I be better off buying the CS upgrade for my PS and Ill (since the included InDesign upgrade would not work for me) or buying them individually? Right now, buying a full version of InDesign is not an option. Any opinion? Thanks again.

The Creative Suite installer will allow you to choose which apps to install – if you don’t want to use InDesign, you don’t have to intall it. There isn’t however a requirement that you have a previous version of InDesign in order to use the CS version included in the Suite.

‘bPlease note that the student version, does not have the new open type fonts, nor the templates, which adobe has spent considerable money in designing. Further such templates are the reason to upgrade to adobe cs, which teaches you how it was done, and brings you up to speed fast.
‘bI had student version of photoshop, illustrator and full version of pagemaker, I upgraded to the standard version of adobe cs, which requires you to only have a copy of photoshop. The upgrade gave me the new photoshop cs, illustrator cs, indesign cs, and version cue, and a free pagemaker plug in (provided you ordered by April, 2004, this enables you to use Pagemaker tools etc). My understanding is that Pagemaker is being done away with, so this is probably an interim step of integration of Pagemaker with Indesign.’b
Whether this upgrade is worth the money is upto you, to me it was worth it due to the hundreds of templates alone, as such templates were unavailable heretofore. Further there are tutorials available in photoshop, illustrator and indesign, which also were not available before. Of course, if you have a lot of experience, you would not need this upgrade, as you could probably do all you work. However, this product will bring you up to speed quickly for newbie’s, as well as it would be indispensable for graphic design houses, due to the version cue networking capabilities.

Man, those must be really good templates if you are going to pay another $400 for them (difference between ed and regular version).
They are good, but they’re certainly not worth $400.00. At least not to me. But I had no choice.
