I have just been reading the forum search on CS Browsers, and I see others have this problem, so I want to push for some sort of change.

When I enable caching, CS takes over and nothing can be done with that computer, except to let it run it’s course or go to Task Manager and shut down. I find that rather distasteful and poor time management, as I have a computer capable of multitasking. Why is this so, and what can be done about it? Mibut’s response "Go to Lunch" or some sort of activity is not a reasonable solution.

I do not have Backround checked.

While I’m at it, I want to be able to see the thumbnails in Explorer, so I can move my files outside of the Browser. Lacking the means or willingness of Adobe to do that, please give us all the file moving capability of Explorer, especially the capability to move files from one drive to another, not just copy. At the present, Browser will move files only in a limited fashion. When I move, I don’t want to see that same file still in Browser. I have several versions of many image as I process, and I generally keep a small number in finals, but I can’t tell what I have copied so deleting becomes a problem. A move simply does this for me.

Lawrence, while Dave’s "go to lunch" suggestion isn’t entirely business-like, what’s not reasonable about letting the browser build its cache unattended while you engage in some other gainful activity?

Set it to build before you leave your desk for the day and let it run while you dine, sleep, or enjoy a rousing round of table tennis with your family. When you come back for a new workday, the browser will be cached-up and running all nice and speedy-like.

On the subject of Windows Explorer thumbnail previews, I’m sorry…I don’t know, and don’t want to. I like Explorer windows to run quickly and consistently in List or Details views and have never taken a liking to the preview thing in that context. I’ve always found Paint Shop Pro’s browse feature wonderfully friendly and fast. It has a folder tree next to the thumbnails and can copy, move, delete, etc. Just a suggestion.

Mibut’s response "Go to Lunch" or some sort of activity is not a reasonable solution.

You’re probably right, but it’s the only one I’ve got. Now that it’s done I don’t see slowdowns anymore. Actually I went to bed, but the principal’s the same.

Well, I just tried to bring everything up to date, and when I saw how long it would take, I simply wanted to abandon it and go on. That’s when I got frustrated at CS commandeering my computer so that I have to resort to Task Manager to do it.

Updates and patches are commonplace in software. Wouldn’t want this one to slide by! 😉

try turning ON the background processing… that should (should) free up processor power for your main task and just process thumbs in the background. It’ll take longer though.
