Just wanted to say I’m sorry for all the top posting I did today … I completely forgot that bottom posting is preferred. Seems it’s so natural for me to start at the top .. and I don’t think about it .. don’t mean to mess up on purpose. *smile*

I’ll TRY and remember from now on.

What is the etiquette regarding posting?? Any links? Should I delete the long strings of previous posts/responses leaving only the my response and the post to which I’m replying? I know many newsgroups and forums are automatically connected to each other, but I read these through Outlook Express.

I bet some would prefer I change my font color to white!

Yes, and not necessarily all of it. Just leave enough for the context to be clear – as above.

Only the untrained or lazy don’t edit the included material. (And MS Outlook’s habit of creating endless strings of included matter is easily fixed.)

Well done for thinking of other people.

I agree.
People complain about top posting, but it’s ok to be as rude as you want in the name of "I can do any thing in a newsgroup that I want. Nobody can tell another what to do. I can use a newsgroup for what ever purpose I wish". Just don’t top post, dammit.

Top posting is so much more sensible – you do it in emails – don’t you? It makes threads so much easier to follow – and as somebody said, it’s only the sad, abusive, malingering, ignorant twats (with messiah complexes and very small dicks) that complain about it!!!

I agree. Top posting is much more sensible. However, I do like to experiment with different positions. 😉 Why read old news first? I’m a web designer and unnecessary scrolling is something I try to avoid, not ensure. However it does make sense to edit out long threads. Those who complain more about format while ignoring content seem to be externalizing their own inadequacies.

Well I’m sorry but that’s a bit of a dumb question isn’t it… If everybody top posts, the sensible way, then the top reply is obviously to the previous post, the one below! If you’re following a thread it’s then sooo simple to just read all the tops – hardly any scrolling necessary (whether people crop – as they should – or not) It’s really simple, just reply as you would to an email (or do you do that wrong as well?).

See how much sense this makes now I’ve put your post in the correct place!!! You’re welcome…

I really don’t care about this, I’m not ‘wound up’ as one sad person thinks I should be, it’s not a big deal, I’m just whiling away a couple of minutes to make a point.

Do "most people" really think bottom posting "makes more sense", or is it just that those who do feel compelled to evangelize about it? I personally find bottom posting annoying unless the original post has been so trimmed that at least the start of the reply shows immediately in the message pane. It’s annoying to scroll down to find "me too" or "huh?" or some other trivial remark.
More annoying than kneejerk top or bottom posters are those who let threads wander to ridiculous levels of quotes — you know, where half the lines start with at least

If you’ve been keeping track … they are also usually the ones who don’t know how to trim their posts. What they should do is get a modern news reader that can "thread" … instead of trying to *act* like *they* are the "anointed ones."

To me, top posting is logical. If a person is following a thread, he can look below to pick up what the message is related to and a full quote is not in the way, However, there are times that it is best to reply beneith the segment in reference such as replying individually to a paragraph. Technically, the argument for bottom posting could also justify never trimming the original message.

I have to admit, it is a pain to scroll down 200 lines of text to find out that someone said

Now look at your reply: Who are you replying to? The poster just under you or the one on the bottom?
Frankly, because I am happy and have a rather large penis, I don’t care
how you post but I tend to skip replies forcing me to play puzzles. Including only the relevant part and bottom posting just makes more

Top posting is so much more sensible – you do it in emails – don’t
you?
It
makes threads so much easier to follow – and as somebody said, it’s
only
the
sad, abusive, malingering, ignorant twats (with messiah complexes and
very
small dicks) that complain about it!!!

Lots of luv xxxxx

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet?

What’s modern about it? Some newsreaders have been doing that for over a dozen years.

Exactly so. Just so much rubbish.

It’s just childish would-be "Net Cops" trying to be snobbish.
If you’ve been keeping track … they are also usually the ones who don’t know how to trim their posts. What they should do is get a modern news reader that can "thread" … instead of trying to *act* like *they* are the "anointed ones."

IMHO: They are full of "it" … just ignore them.

Go cruising on Usenet and see by yourself, it is pretty obvious: Bottom posting is the norm

I personally find bottom posting annoying unless the original post has been so trimmed that at least the start of the reply shows immediately in the message pane. It’s annoying to scroll down to find "me too" or "huh?" or some other trivial remark.

I completely agree
