How to make a Pumpkin template w/ PS?

A Photoshop pumpkin carving filter … mmmm I’ve always wondered something essential was missing in Photoshop … well there is always the next version coming out next year right?

Since your ultimate tool will likely be a knife, you will want to turn the photo into a two color image, where only one of the colors will be cut out (black and white) and then create a template with lines that are easy to follow. This can be done by changing the color mode to grayscale and adjusting the brightness/contrast settings to the extreme, or by saving the image as a GIF in tow colors.

You may want to visit Adobe Studio Exchange (http://share.studio.adobe.com/) and search for free custom shapes that relate to Halloween. Then print the custom shape filled with black.

I was hoping there was some filter within PS that would turn a color photo into that two color style you see on templates.

I tried a few and might be able to use the Sketch – Sponge.

If anyone else can think of a filter that might work better, please let me know…thanks.

Try opening the photo, converting to grayscale (Image >Mode > Grayscale) and then adjusting the contrast all the way up (Image >Adjust> Brightness/Contrast). Now use the brightness slider to fine tune. You’ll get an image sort of like the Marlboro man.
