More Batch problems!
A couple of weeks ago, I was having problems trying to automate batch photos. Danny’s suggestion seemed to work before, but not now. I don’t know if there’s something I’m doing wrong or if the program is corrupt somehow.

Here’s the problem.
In the Automate, Batch window, if I change any of the names under File Naming from the defaults – Document Name and Extension – I get an error message telling me I must name them. This is true whether I try to apply a name or set them to none.
So, the obvious question then, is why rename them at all, why not just leave them at the defaults? That would be my first choice, except that when I do, it adds the name again and again. So that what used to be "04-3-shangai.jpg" is now "04-3-shanghai.jpg04-3-shanghai.jpg".
Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Hi again, John:

Rules of thumb:
* The purpose of this box is to tell PS how you want processed file names assigned. If you have no need to change file names, no setting changes are needed. The default "Document name" and "extension" will be applied.
* At minimum, two boxes must be populated, the last of which you want to be one of the "extension" options.
* The purpose of the ‘none’ option is to clear a previously populated box. If ‘none’ is applied to all boxes, this violates the previous ROT.

The only way I can figure out how
04-3-shangai.jpg came out as
04-3-shangai.jpg04-3-shangai.jpg

would be if these were the settings (two rows; same settings): Document name extension
Document name extension

If, regardless of what you try, you get an error message, you can try this: Choose ‘none’ for all boxes, even ones that look like the have nothing in them. Then in the first box (top left), choose one of the Document Name options and choose one of the ‘extension’ options for the top/right box. That will get you back to the default settings.

Hope this helps…
