For about a month my Dell 17" lcd monitior has had a distinctive blue cast, no matter what program I am using . I have a Dell Diension 8200 PC with Windows XP Professional, that I bought in August 2002 for home use. I have Monaco software that is supppsed to match the monitor image with digital prints. I also have set my PhotoshopCS2 ICM to match the ICM of my Epson 1280 printer. The prints are OK, but it is diconcerting to have the blue cast on the monitor. I spent 2 hours with on the phone Dell tech and tested everything he could think of, including uninstalling my NVIDIA software, going to the NVIDIA website, and re-installing it. The Dell tech’s superviser said it is my video card. The tech department at my office suggested that my monitor cable is loose or defective. I have checked the connection, and it seems OK. Any suggestions?

What colour temperature do you have it set to? 9300 looks pretty blue.

I have set it to both 6000K and 5000K, and it doesn’t seem to help. What setting do you recommend? I just opened Photoshop got and error message: "Your monitor profile is defective, reset it. " I have done so several times, with Monaco, even purposely trying settings that were diferent from those indicated in the insructions, and it didn’t work. I may try resetting the printer profile using Monaco. Maybe that will work, or even disabling Monoco, if I can figure out a way to do without uninstalling it. I do have the instruction book in the software, but I havent looked at it. "When all else fails, read the instructions."

My first thought was that you might have the monitor colour temperature set too high, which would give the blue tint you describe. It seems it’s not the problem. Does the problem happen when you boot into safe made –
i.e. without all the NVIDIA drivers, Adobe Gamma and stuff?

By far the easiest way of figuring out what the problem is would be to get another PC or monitor to try. Maybe you know someone with a laptop who would let you plug your monitor into it? Or take the machine to your local repair shop and plug it into one of their display monitors?

I appreciate it’s a nuisance but switching one of the two components (PC and monitor) will quickly allow you to work out which is at fault.

Thanks. I will try safe mode. Also, I can probably borrow a laptop.
