I am in the UK and Photoshop over here is about £490 ($880) as a part time student I am able to get Adobe products at a cut price (amazingly so!) unfortunately I can’t just buy Photoshop CS, the only way I can get it is buying the whole Adobe Creative suite premium + but instead of a massive £1000 ($1700) it is just £399 which also includes a Wacom Graphire 3 if I order by the end of the month. I’m sure you’re all shouting buy, buy, buy at your computers but £399 is still a lot of money!! I currently use Digital Image suite which I find limiting. I am particularly interested in Channels as I would like to get better results in B&W. I know Photoshop is considered the best, but my question is – is it easy to learn? Or are there at least some good books out there that help you to learn. I would hate to spend all this money and find that I just can’t do it because it’s too complicated!!!!
Hi Angela,
No, it isn’t easy, but nothing worth learning is 🙂
There are some good books around for learners:
The Adobe Classroom series is good, but a bit boring. Much more interesting is Photoshop Artistry by Haynes and Crumpler. A good book for photographers is Adobe Photoshop for Photographers by Martin Evening. Later there are more complex books such as Professional Photoshop by Dan Margulis and Real World Color Management by Fraser et al.
One think you ought to note, btw. Unlike the US if you buy the Educational version in the UK it does NOT allow you to upgrade when a new version comes out.
A better solution would be to look for business clearance sales where you can buy an older copy or use eBay. Make sure you use the UK version of eBay if you do and do *NOT* buy anything from someone not residing in the UK.
Incidentally, it appears that in the UK your are no ;longer able to buy Photoshop separately at all. Go to a retailer like Dabs and they only have the Suite. Only Elements can be purchased separately.
