Hi,

I’m creating a transparent GIF using PS V6.

The problem that I am experiencing is that the edges are not very crisp. I have created a simple yellow shape on a white background and saved it as a transparent gif. I then insert the transparent gif into a webpage which has a dark blue background.

I expected to see the crisp yellow shape with well defined edges. What I am getting is the yellow shape with a very un-impressive edge. Some of the pixels are very nearly white and some are nearer yellow. The result looks absolutely terrible.

Does anyone know how I can rectify this problem?

Regards (and thanks for your time),

Get the matte color to be the same or similar to your background color.

Eerily like it was aliased to go against the white background it was created against, isn’t it?

Exactly. There is a way to address this, provided you have some idea of the background color your GIF will be displayed on.

This is the matte color in "Save for Web…" – pick one that matches your web page reasonably closely and the white fringe will go away. If you have several colors, save several versions of your GIF, each with a separate matte color.
