Have been using photoshop for years, but I’m never sure the methods I use are the best way to do things.

Are there textbook or courses teaching photoshop that would give a broad coverage of photoshop usage?

MacBook Pro 16” Mockups 🔥

– 12 scenes

– 48 MacBook Pro 16″ mockups

– 6000 x 4500 px

Classroom in a Book is a classic text, and I’d check with your local University and Jr. Colleges for courses.

Where are you located?

In seattle.

BTW, just to clarify. By broad coverage I mean one should understand at least 90% of all functions in photoshop and also know when such function is best used. Right now I use less than 1/4 of the features in photoshop. Although I can so far do everything I needed to do, I’m sure certains things can be done much faster or better if I know all the tools.

I would think that a comprehensive course would take several text books, from low level (knowing each functions) to high level (object removal, color matching, creating fakes, etc). I imagine it would take years of study and practice to become a well rounded expert.

If you already know 1/4 of all options/features of what Photoshop is capable of then I don’t think you will need much or any help, but mastering what you already know to improve them. Me, I have started using Photoshop since v2.x or early v3.x (wasted lot of years toying with plug-ins <bg>) but more serious in the past 6-7 years, and I think I may know around 5-6% or so. Or the more I know the more I know I know less <bg>

I’d agree with that! PS has so many ways to do things that even recognized experts sometimes differ widely on going about a task.

Some things, such as cloning, can be done by a rank amateur, and results will be anywhere from excellent to lousy. Selection in CS3 is so different from CS1 that it’s almost like a different tool, but to really lift an object from one image and blend it right into another takes a lot of skill, some artistry perhaps, and a good eye.

I’d suggest Classroom in a book as a decent starting place- I have a copy for CS 1 I’d let you have, and I will be in Seattle Saturday, as I am sailing the inside passage on Sunday. So let me know so I can throw it in the car; leaving tomorrow morning from SF.

Well, even you have no need for older version I don’t think it would be much good if you give away the CD without KEY, and if you give away the KEY then one of you will be using illegal copy. Or not much different than downloading the TRAIL version directly from Adobe site, or warez from warez site.

Not what I meant at all. I have the book I’d give a potential student, not the software. I don’t truck with illegal software.

What version do you have, and have you located any PS classes locally?

Many books that come with a CD are very useful without using the CD. You just use the same steps on some image of your own. The CDs often contain nothing more than sample files. AFAIK, there’s no software on the CD other than samples of projects, screen shots, and information that is duplicated in the book itself. Helpful, but not mandatory.

I’ve purchased books at our library’s used book shop that I’ve found very helpful even though they were published for an earlier version of Photoshop than I have. You can always learn new things about old tools.
