I have CS and PSE 5 on my computer (running XP Pro with 2 G ram)….. all my programs run just fine, but these programs keep "not responding"……. Anyone have an idea why?
Thanks,
Joy

Hi Joy,
XP Pro can be a very stable platform of PS and PSE.
For purposes of testing you might consider doing this:

Start>Run>
type msconfig
go to the startup tab and click on ‘Disable All’
Restart

If PS is then stable then re-enable the startup items you need to have running in the background.

Good luck,
Ron

I’m running PS7 on XP he with SP2 with 2 GB and I don’t have any problems PS7 not responding.

Try Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, System. Any errors reported there?

Curious! Are they both open at the same time? Are you sharing plug-ins?

FWIW, I have CS2 on XP-Pro, 2G RAM and it has never gone into the ‘not responding’ state. (It does have the famous start-up thing where it is not instantly ready for an ‘Open’ dialog. Take a deep breath after the menus first appear, then Open.)

Like everyone else said, I have never had the "not responding" state, but definitely see a lot of hang in the larger Adobe products.

Then again, I am running a 1.06GHz Mobile processor with 1GB of RAM.

If you continuously get "not responding" then something is conflicting with something.

Although on further thought… I have always wondered how fast of a machine it would take to be able to run 2 Adobe giants at the same time.

I would LOVE to run Flash and Photoshop at the same time for example. My other machine is a 2.93GHz with only 512MB RAM (have not upgraded it yet) and I can run them well enough I guess, but RAM is quickly obliterated.

I can’t help you. I’ve had PS, since it was first ported for the PC, and it has crashed exactly once. It never stalls, all the way to CS2 (do not have CS3 yet). With some hiccups in Premiere Pro, all Adobe programs have worked flawlessly for decades and most get major workouts with monster files. I’d suggest that you might have a problem with your setup, or your machine.

Now, I do admit that my main workstation is robust, but I constantly work with Premiere, AfterEffects, PS and Bridge open, though all but one is minimized. It’s never been a problem with InDesign, PS, AI and Bridge, either. Even in the old days w/ dual 1GHz processors and 2GB RAM, I ran most of the still graphics programs open at once. So far, never a problem with slowdowns, hangs, or crashes.
