Problem entering Photoshop serial number after installing Creative Suite 3

Could anyone explain to me why the serial number (supplied by Adobe) doesn’t work when I try to start up Photoshop for the first time after installation of Creative Suite 3? I’ve spoken to Adobe who assure me the serial number is valid (though weren’t any use helping me sort out the problem).

When I entered the number for InDesign, the serial number worked fine – but not with Photoshop (or Illustrator, Dreamweaver or Flash etc…) The installation process appeared to go through without a hitch, but I can’t get any further with the registration process.

Could it be a problem with an earlier version of Photoshop on my machine (a Mac G5)? Unfortunately, I bought it second-hand, so I’ve no idea what was loaded on before and I haven’t carried out a clean install of OSX.

Any help would be gratefully received..

You should only need to enter the serial number once. All programs should then use that same number.

Yes, that is possible if the ‘earlier’ version was a CS3 version as well. Previous versions (CS2 of earlier) do not interfere with the installation of CS3. You can have multiple versions on your disk without any problems.

Never mind the clean install of OSX just yet. See the following: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html

I find it difficult to believe that Adobe could not help you with this. Installation support is free. I’ve had few issues over the decades, but when I did, Adobe worked the problem out quickly and efficiently. I upgraded AI and my original S/N was not in the, then, current release’s datatbase. They created a new one for me in seconds, and installation was fluid. Try again, as you must have gotten a twit.

As for other vers. of PS on a machine, I’ve had ver 4 (for one specific client), ver 5 (’cause it was there), ver 7 (I was so comfortable with it, that I wanted it around for those panic calls, when I did not have time to work with a new GUI) and CS. Most of my workstations have more than one, though I have not added CS3 (waiting for the full Premiere/AfterEffects/PS/AI bundle to sort out).

I doubt that you’ll need to re-install the OS. Call Adobe again.
