"could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of file" is the message I get. I am opening TIF files with a correct .tif tag.

All of these were scanned (original files 130M to 300M), then cleaned, cropped and adjusted (using layers)in PS CS.
Next step was batch processing (in File Browser). Assigning a running number to each (e.g. from Greenland Approach to Finger Peak.tif to Greenland Approach to Finger Peak 8617.tif), adding copyright by template, desciption and keywords.
Then another batch process to flatten, downsize to 50M, change to 8-bit, save on another disk adding 8b to the filename, and close the original, both versions in LZW compressed TIF.

Now. I need to prepare the ten best (out of 40) for large prints. And cannot open any one of them. The "8b" versions open ok. All other files, which have gone through a similar workflow before and after this lot, open ok.

Burning the problem files to CD and trying on another computer gives the same result. Tried the suggestions of an earlier thread re JPGs, none of which worked.

Irfanview gives also an error message and cannot open them, neither can ThumbsPlus.

Between working on this batch and now I have changed from W2K to XP.

What did PS do to my work when saving the files?

Have you tried checking the hard drive out? Maybe that’s the source of the problem.
