This seems fairly basic, but I can’t find anything to help and it’s driving me nuts. If I select a brush size of, say, 19, the cursor grows to the appropriate size, but the actual area affected by the brush is very small; at an estimate, 4-5 pixels. If I choose a smaller brush size, like 5, the area affected is sub-pixel, so I get a nice random effect. This happens w/ the brush at all settings (Diameter, hardness & spacing) & the rubber-stamp tool, too. Thanks.

PS 6.0.1, running on Win2K pro; not really sure about what’s inside the box, I’m filling in for someone.

Open the Brushes palette. Is Shape Dynamics checked? Uncheck it and you’ll be fine. I wish I knew what causes this, as it is irritating the heck out of me.

I love my wacom stylus. 😉
Its control panel allows you to change the "sensitivity" of your paint stroke, hence the possibility that if it is on a bad setting, it could affect the brushes strokes…

Yup, that was it. I have a wacom tablet, but I don’t use it and it’s shoved off to the side. Shape Dynamics was on, I turned it off, no more problem.

…. the tablet is fun to play with, though. I might have to find some space on the desktop for it.

Thanks, All!

I have PS on a machine which does not have a Wacom and never has. Every time I change brushes the Shape Dynamics is switched on. ANyone got any idea why or how I can fix this?

why is because those brush presets have shape dynamics turned on.

How to fix it? If you don’t have a wacom tablet, then you don’t have to — it won’t have any effect.

it won’t have any effect

Yes it does. Like the OP here said, I get, in effect, a much smaller brush tip. Clearly I have something set wrong.

If you don’t have a wacom tablet, then the effect is the same as if the tablet were always set to 100% pressure — in other words, no effect.

If you don’t have a wacom tablet

So I wonder why my laptop thinks it does have a Wacom, when it never has …
