Does anyone have any tips on photomerging images with skies? My experience has been that the corner edges tend to be a bit darker and when photomerging multiple images together this tends to show up as subtle border breaks. I’ve have successfully tried smudging but am looking for something better.

Thanks,

Paul

Due to Chromatic and Physical aberrations (vigneting) of camera optics This is unsolvable unless you take your shots with at least 30% covered from 1 shot to the next. (and erase the parts with aberrations) or you can make a mask of luminosity and "paint " your edges to the mask or use a software as DxO witch is compensate there aberrations.

If you shoot digitally, and in RAW (Nikon NEF for sure, and probably others, as well), PS will allow you to address vignetting, or light fall-off, especailly with WA lenses. There are several programs, both standalone and PS plug-ins (Andromeda comes to mind), that allow one to address this problem.

Oops, I hit Send too soon. You can also do a Mask that is radial (trial & error is the best way to come up with what you need), and then do an Adjustment Layer>Curves, or what ever combo of other Adjustment Layers you choose. For most work the RAW converter is OK, and I have not tried Andromeda’s Lens Plug-in.

I have several discussions on my web site about fixing corner vignetting. There is even a photoshop action you can download.
If you are planning on do this a lot then a much easier approach is to use the panoramafactory program. It has built in corner adjusting as well as fixing pincushion and barrel distortion.
You can download a sample for free before you buy.

I use Hugin (a free PanoTools frontend) and save to Multiple TIFF format. Then I use enblend to blend the shading for exposure and color matching. I make absolutely seemless panos.

just use the healing brush tool to touch up the affected areas, it is a great tool for invisible blending.

There are several things to try. The easiest is to use specialized software like panorama factory that will do this automatically.
Another approach is the more labor intensive software panorama tools (which is free). This requires you figuring out various parameters for it to make the adjustments.
I have some tips on fixing vignetting on my web site that you can adapt. There is an action you can download and then modify for your particular lens that will even out the brightness of the image. You can do this to each image before merging.
