The ViewSonic VP191s (19") – I swear by this display. It’s a Flat Panel, but one of the best I’ve used… not too expensive either! Panels take up a tiny fraction of the desk space…

If shes doing serious photography she needs a minimum 19 inch standard crt display moniter rather than a LCD flar panel.

Any of the brannded ones will be fine.

Most modern panels are perfectly good (if not better) than CRTs for all design work. This last 18 months they have come on a LOT. Just dont be tempted to get a cheep one. You DO pay for quality.

Whilst flat screen may be fine for design work, most still have a long way to go before they will be considered as adequate for photography, having said that there are some *very* expensive flat screens that are now getting quite good, but for the price most CRT screens are still a lot better.

The important part of what you say is "for design work". Probably true, but unless you spend large sums of money their colour fidelity, on a colour managed system, is not good enough for photography.

A related question on LCD monitors, I see that there are 2 types of DVI cables: dual-link & "single-link"(?).

As I am now using the LG 1930b for about 2 hrs, the LG doesn’t include a DVI monitor cable, just an analog cable, which type of DVI cable is sufficient? Will try to find, info but other than "expensive", I never thought that I need to consider DVI cable types!

As to why the LG 1930B, Office Depot currently has a double mail-in rebate totaling $150 which would lower the price of the new model considerably. The LG does look quite nice but haven’t tried to do a newer adobe gamma yet.

Check the manufacturers tech data for cable info. I’m not a monitor technician and I don’t know the model details so I can’t give you a sensible answer. LG should have the relevant details online, including cable type for your monitor.

As far as I know, if it has a connector that fits the monitor at one end, and a connector that fits the computer at the other, and it works when you plug it in, it’s OK. <g>

Do be aware though, that there different types of digital connections used by different manufacturers. Again, that’s why you need to check the monitor specs (and the video card connector).
