I have a blank 8 1/2×11 document, 300dpi – and would like to draw either lines or rectangles of very specific dimensions (thickness is unimportant). If lines, they would be 2", 3", 4", 5", 6", 7", 8", and 10". If rectangles,
they would incorporate these dimensions. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks……..

Use the info box and watch the sizes as you drag with shift held down (for horizontal lines). Be sure your specs (preferences) are in inches.

Make sure your rulers are visible and Snap is enabled (all under View). Then drag guides out from them to each of the measurements. Better yet, you could just go to View > New Guide and place them exactly by entering each value.

Then you could use the line tool (in the tools just below Type tool), and draw lines on top of the guides. While dragging the line out with your mouse, holding SHFT will allow for perfect horizontal or vertical direction, while pressing the space bar will allow you to move the line and "snap" it to the guide. Draw one line and if it isn’t thick enough, you can add a layer style using Stroke.

Peadge 🙂
