Photoshop CS – Could not complete request

I am using PS CS for PC and ran into something odd. I am dealing with files that have quite a few layers. Files will not save, flatten, etc. I can turn all the layers off and it will save then. Shutdown, restart and then flatten and then I can save as tiff or whatever. Photoshop 6 has no problem dealing with the same files. I have all updates available for PS CS as far as I can tell.

Error message is as follows:
Photoshop could not complete your request because of a program error.

Can’t find any relevant posts to other forum topics. Any help or suggestions would be great.
