I have a Mac running OS 10.4.11.

Photoshop 7 and InDesign 2 are installed.

I’m about to install Adobe CS3.

Will Photoshop 7 and InDesign 2 coexist with CS3 just in case I need to go back for something or will the new installation wipe out the old ones?

TIA

I am not MAC user to know anything about MAC, but I often have 2 versions of Photoshop installed on same system. And the older version usually stay for year(s) unless I have to reinstall Windows.

Newer version of Photoshop has always installed on different folder so no wiping problem here.

They will coexist. Should not be a problem.

They will coexist yes — but why would you want them to? The newer versions will open anything created or manipulated in older versions… just curious as to your thought process — they are huge programs that take up space…

I totally disagree. You should keep the earlier version until you are familiar with the new one and don’t use it any more. For one thing, if you like ImageReady you will find it is not there in CS3 and you may not like the new routine.

I always keep at least one previous version on my machine when I upgrade.

Then, probably, you take longer to learn a new program
than those who replace
because you leave yourself an easy way out.

To each his own.

I’m not using CS3 to learn a new program, I’m using PS to edit my pictures. I have both PS7 and CS3 installed and PS7 will be there until I’m more comfortable with CS3. I’m 55 years old, new programs take a little longer for me to learn than when I was younger.

This was not meant as critic against Ed. This was simply my opinion and it was said with a smile, even if said without a 🙂 I am quite sure new programs takes (now) less time for me to learn than 5 years ago when I was 55. Maybe simply because of having 5 years more experience than when I was 55:-)

Nothing will be wiped out; they will all be in your applications folder just as you left them.

You poor dear. I have both CS3 and PS7 installed because I am too busy to remove PS7.
FYI, I will be 78 next May, and I can certainly master any software program. Jim

Hmmm I will only be 71 next Feb. and have both CS2 and CS3 installed, and I am too lazy to remove the CS2.

<hic> I had CS3 installed few weeks after I got it, but my health hasn’t been very good so I still haven’t had much chance to mess with CS3 much as I would like to <bg>

To expand on that; the reason I found it funny is that my duties in my old job as a Senior Designer included testing new versions of software, OSes and hardware that the company was considering buying.

And one thing I learned was that sometimes new version of programs break features that worked okay in earlier versions. I think it’s folly to install a new version and summarily dump the old one.

different versions coexist fine on Mac. i always keep at least one previous version, just in case. in fact, you can run more than one version simultaneously with no problem. be forewarned though, if you’re considering upgrading to leopard there are many serious issues running cs3 apps on leopard and photoshop 7 will not run on leopard (requires classic). also, if you have a Mac-intel, cs3 apps run natively=no rosetta emulation.
