PSCS doesn’t rotate images properly

I have digital photos taken in .jpeg by a Canon 300D camera. When I open the .jpeg in PSCS and rotate vertical images to vertical orientation, PS will NOT save the file in that rotation. This occurs when I save OR save-as over the original jpeg out of the camera. I can crop the file, adjust levels and such, and that info will be saved in the file, but not orientation. In the simple act of opening and closing files, now some even are upside down. Is this a PS bug with Canon (I know the camera stores orientation info)??

Continuing-basically everytime I open and save a jpeg from my Canon Digital camera, it gets rotated 90 degrees. It will do so as many times as one opens and saves a jpeg, hence the upside down images.

When I try it gets rotated correctly, and only once.

Are you processing the images before opening them in Photoshop (in Canon software for instance) ?

I think I viewed the photos in infranview before opening in PS, but I do that with my Sony digicam shots too, with no trouble.

I am running XP. For a minute I thought the problem was something with ifranview or canon file viewer, but this is not the case. I am taking files that have never been viewed or opened EXCEPT in PS, and it keeps on rotating the file every save/close cycle.
