(RGB/8*) question

Concerning files names at the top of a photo in Photoshop…I know what the RGB means and I know the "8" means 8 bit (I assume anyway) but, what does the "*" stand for? Sometimes it’s there and sometimes it’s not.

* means that the profile of the image you’re working on is different from the default working space.

# means that there is no profile for the image
