I have a PS CS3 PSD file consisting of many layers. Two layers are text layers, which are separated by a third gradient layer. I would like to vertically center just those three layers. I can eyeball it, but it’s not quite right.

Is there a keystroke to center these layers. I’ve tried highlighting these layers and then selecting layer=>align=>vertical centers but that just makes all three layers overlap.

Is there any other method?

Thank you

If the layers are the same dimensions you can use snap – View>Snap To>Layers then enable snap – View>Snap – then use the Move tool to drag snap them into place.
If the layers are different dimensions but of the same or similar subjects you can set the upper layer in difference blend mode and after selecting the Move tool use the arrows to align the layers so they are black or the darkest they will get.

Good luck,

In PS CS3, there are buttons similar to the ones you find in Illustrator, for aligning layers.
But keystroke that I know of.

1. Select each of the layers. Use the command key to make multiple selections if the layers are not next to each other.

2. Select the Move tool. Now look at the top edge of the screen, you should see the Move Tool options, including a row of buttons for aligning edges and centers.

JUST FYI in older versions use the little link connectors to choose the layers you want aligned (CS and older)
then choose the move tool >> you will see alignment options at top bar

layer => align => horizontal centers

(CS2. Should be the same with 3)
