Hi — I’m unable to enter Paragraph text in CS.

I select the text tool, draw a bounding box, and attempt to enter text.

When I hit the Enter key to begin a new paragraph, nothing happens.

If I hit Enter when the cursor is to the left of some text, the text disappears.

Also, text does not wrap to the next line, even though I’ve created a bounding box.

What simple thing have I failed to do???

Many thanks.

What type of justification are you using? You might try opening your Paragraph palette (Window > Paragraph) and resetting it (click on the tiny triangle in upper right corner of the Paragraph palette).

Thanks for replying, Peadge. Using Left Justification.

"Reset Paragraph" had no effect.

I’d say try dumping the Prefs.

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) immediately after launching Photoshop or ImageReady. You will be prompted to delete the current settings which you should do. They will be restored to the default settings as when you first loaded the program.

My text and paragraph functions work fine so the problem may be fixed by dumping the prefs. My initial advice was to reset only the paragraph settings, but an entire Prefs dump may be better.

The two Enter keys ( the one on the QWERTY pad and the one on the number pad) behave differently when you’re entering text.
The qwerty pad should start a new line the number pad commits the text – like clicking on the tick at the top.

Well, Peadge, as they say in the Guinness TV commercial, "Brilliant"!!!

Thank you very much. Issue solved and mission accomplished.

"Real World Photoshop CS" by Blatner and Fraser says, "Certain kinds of crashes can corrupt Photoshop’s Preferences file." Aha!

Have a great New Year’s!
