How to colorize a grayscale image??

I have a grayscale image. I want to give it a burguny shade. So instead of shades of gray, I want to have shades of burgundy. Anyone have a tip on how best to accomplish this? In the meantime I will experiment.

Here are two ways: 1) Use Image>Adjust>Hue/Sat and check the colorize box. Black areas will stay black unless you adjust the brightness slider. 2) Convert it to a duotone, which is a mixture of black and one or more colors of your choice.

Another option is to convert to RGB mode and go to Image >Adjust > Variations. Check out the options too—Fine, Coarse, Shadows, Midtones, Highlights, Saturation…
