Hello everyone,

I am using Photoshop CS with Windows XP.

Is there any way to set a default folder to save images to as they are edited? I find that after every image that I save, and then go to edit a new image to edit, that I have to navigate through several folders to get back to the folder that I had just saved the previous image into. Talk about a time waster.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Tracy

Hi Tracy,

If I understand what you’re likely doing, you are opening an image from one folder, editing it, and then saving the results to another folder. Correct? If so, then no, I don’t believe there is any way to specify the folder you’re saving to as a default since Photoshop always saves to the folder where the file was opened from. The only exception that comes to mind is if you use Save For Web, which I believe will always save to the folder last used in a save.

I suggest the quickest approach would be to save your edited images to the same folder as the original, but ensure you tag them with a different name. Then, if you like, move all the new files to a separate folder later. The drawback is that if you want the edited files to maintain the same name as the originals, you’d have to rename them once they’ve been moved.

So, here’s another suggestion that should at least make things a little easier if you’re working primarily with two folders: Create a shortcut to the folder where your edits are saved, and place that shortcut into the folder of original files. At least that way you can click on the shortcut rather than navigate all the way back to the folder used for saved edits.

Hope that helps…if only a little,

Regards,

Daryl
