Hi,
I can not seem to figure this out. On a blank layer, I take the paintbrush and make a shape.
I then stroke the shape via layer style. I then want to rasterize the layer so the stroke
is not a style but part of the layer. All options for raterizing the layer are greyed out.

What am I doing wrong, or how do i accomplish this?

Thanks,
Chuck

Instead of adding the stroke in Layer Styles, do this: Select all pixels on that layer by Ctrl/Cmd-Clicking the layer in the Layers Palette. That should give you a selection outline for that layer. While the selection is still active, go to your Layers Palette and create a new layer. Then go to Edit>Stroke, and add the stroke from THERE. If you’re using Photoshop 7 or earlier, your stroke will be your foreground color, if I recall correctly, so be sure you’ve got the foreground already set to the color you want. Using Photoshop CS, you can CHOOSE the color of your stroke from the Stroke dialog box.

So NOW, what you’ve got is a separate layer than contains ONLY the stroke. If it’s exactly what you wanted, you can easily combine the two layers into one. If you don’t nail it the first time, just delete that layer and try again. You CAN create this stroke on the SAME layer as the object, but doing it on a separate layer gives you a better margin of safety.

Hope that helps!
