hi all,
I need for work to buy the creative suite and as the price in the us store is almost the half compare to the price in the european store I was wondering if I can buy it in the us (I will be soon for a while in the us) and use it for work in europe (I’m european citizen).

thanks a lot

I don’t see why not, as long as you have a computer with the correct OS… apparently PS/CS3 wont work on a vista 64bit machine, from what a friend was telling me… kk

hi, thanks for the answer
well, my problem is not about if I will be able to run the program on my machine
but if there are some legal issue about professional program (such as photoshop)
bought in the us and use it professionaly in europe.

Once you’ve bought it, it doesn’t matter where you use it. Consider if you were one of us yanks and got sent overseas for awhile, you wouldn’t uninstall all you US purchased programs. If its a better deal here, buy it.

perhaps the price difference is due to European import taxes etc.

If you buy the software in the USA and take it home, you may still have to pay any taxes that are due, or perhaps pay the penalties for illegal importation.

You should ask your own Customs people about importing software.

Some European countries do not recognize or honor EULA language that states that the purchaser shall hold harmless any damage caused by a defect in the product. That might be pursuading Adobe to cover the risk with higher pricing.

Thanks a lot everybody for your help.

I’ve called the customs office and got some informations: the software has to be declared when it arrives at the airport and the only tax to be paid is the VAT.
This is an EU regulation and valid for all the EU countries; once the tax is paid in one of the EU countries it isn’t necessary to pay other taxes in other EU countries.

I am guessing that VAT is somewhere about 15%. That does not explain the 100% increase in the selling price in Europe.

It would seem that the Adobe Europe franchise is holding you all to ransom.

If you can afford it , buy a few extra copies, pay the VAT and sell them at a reasonable profit.

Having said that, the Adobe online store shows the price for Photoshop CS3 in Europe (Belgium) to be
833 Euro (1228 US) and in the UK to be 570 Pounds (1114 US) VAT included against a US price of 999 dollars.

That shows an 11% increase in the UK and a 22% increase in Belgium VAT included.

All fairly reasonable.

However, when it comes to Creative Suite the increase is , as you say , almost double.

The prices here in Australia seem to be about the same. Photoshop is about the same as the US, but Creative Suite prices are nearly double.

Interesting!

15% VAT + 14% devaluation of the USD. The difference could be Adobe’s add-on price to protect themselves because their EULA is not honored in some parts of Europe.

There are a number of people who have posted on the Adobe forums who say they are running CS3 on Vista64 without problems. I know it works fine on Vista32, as well.
