Hello,
I have a problem when I scan something in photoshop, so I can do some editing in it. Once I am done I copy/paste into publisher. But when that happens, the Photoshop rectangle in the task bar just completely dissepears, there is no way to get back into photoshop afterwards. So what has to be done is press Ctrl-Shift-Esc and then end process. Then I can go back into photoshop and start all over again. Is there something that can be done about this. Both publisher and photoshop have been reinstalled and updated (if possible). But if I paste it into word photoshop does not dissepear. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dustin A.

Dustin,

First of all you should NOT Cut/Paste. SAVE the file and then PLACE or IMPORT (depending upon receiving application) the image file into the other application.

Why not? Whilst I appreciate clipboard formats have limitations, surely any intermediate file may have greater restrictions.

Dustin,

Basic Copy/Paste operations typically should not cause what you’re seeing. I’ve seen Photoshop disappear from the taskbar when it is in a ‘Not Responding’ condition, but there are many unstated variables related to your scenario.

Depending on the system resources available, and the size/resolution/color depth of the image you Copy to the Windows Clipboard, it may not be so strange that its hanging your system. Apparently, you probably have Publisher, (a resource-hog in its own right, especially if a long and/or graphic-laden document is open and in-memory), running at the same time.

Some other factors contributing to the non-response might be:

Previous Clipboard contents, (in Publisher, Windows/MS-Office will attempt to use the ‘Clipbook’ feature, holding multiple instances of Clipboard contents in memory).

The number of History states held in memory by Photoshop.

Size/availability of Photoshop scratch-disk space.

Size/availability of Windows paging file.

I can’t say I disagree with either Len or Colin in their previous posts. I rarely, if ever, find myself copying/pasting from Photoshop to another app, but sometimes in the case of ‘office’ apps like PPT or MSPub, it can be the best way to go.

I would recommend some simple experimenting on your part, first minimizing system resource demands. Open a relatively small image, (<1MB), in Photoshop. Even if you do no editing, choose Edit > Purge > All, then Select All and Copy. Close Photoshop, launch Publisher and attempt the Paste. If it works, then your problem is a system resource issue, (as opposed to a ‘bug’ or incompatibility of some sort).

I hope that helps.

What about drag and drop? Does that work?
