Hi, This is probably a really dumb question but what exactly is the difference between solid coated and process coated pantone colours?

Thanks for any info

Ben

Solid refers to a seperate spot color ink, mixed according to Pantone’s specifications. Process is when this color is approximated in CMYK.

As well, coated (or uncoated) refers to the type of paper the color will be printed on, which affects the color somewhat.

But doesn’t affect the ink. The inks are identical and only the preview on screen is different.

Solid Coated specifies spot inks.

Process coated is a completely different book that specifies CMYK ink percentages.

Solid in Process is related to Solid Coated – but simulates the spot ink colors in CMYK percentages for a particular press condition.
