I encountered this problem when trying to save a jpg image as bmp by clicking:

File > Save As > bmp > Save > Advanced Modes > 32 bit > X8 R8 G8 B8 (which is the only option available, the other option A8 R8 G8 B8 was grayed out).

The saved bmp file turns green when opened by certain programs like QuickTime Player. It also cannot be viewed as a thumbnail in Windows Explorer and will not open on Windows Picture And Fax Viewer.

I use Photoshop 7 and windows xp. Help please!!

So save at 24bit.
Monitors only see 24, printers only print 24.
You probably didn’t start with but 24.

QuickTime can’t handle all the BMP modes (I’ve got bugs filed against it for several of them). Even some of the Microsoft apps won’t read all of the BMP modes (silly, but true). But they’re enabled for DirectX users – who can read them.

ARGB isn’t available because your image didn’t have an alpha channel.
