Hello- Suddenly when I start PS7 I receive a message telling me that PS will not start because "EToolBox.dll" cannot be located. Luckilly, when I press OK, the application does eventually launch. I did a bit of research and found that "etoolbox" is associated with Extensis products. (I recently installed the trial version of Extensis PhotoFrame.). It seemed logical to me to delete anything I could find referencing Extensis, which I did, and I still receive the same message. Any suggestions? Also, when I try to start Adobe Illustrator, I simply get a message that says "Illustraror will not run." I’m assuming the two issues are somehow connected since they occurred simultaneously. RE Illustrator: In the error window the only option is "exit," which means I no longer have a useable Illustrator program. I would be grateful for any advice, please!
Thanks. DB~

reinstall then uninstall the extensis product using the control panel’s add remove programs applet. Something got left behind in the registry. A clean uninstall should fix it.

Dennis,

If you’re certain you deleted any instance of EToolbox.dll that you could find, then I’m not sure what is wrong. While Dave’s suggestion of reinstalling and uninstalling PhotoFrame is worth trying, you don’t really gain anything insofar as the registry is concered, because Extensis primarily uses the registry only for saving registration records and certain preference setttings. There is nothing in the registry regarding EToolBox.dll

If you are using any other Extensis plug-ins, several share the EToolBox.dll file: PhotoFrame, Mask Pro, PhotoTools, and pxl SmartScale. While you should find EToolBox.dll in the respective directories under <install path>\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Plug-ins\Extensis\<product folder>, you will likely find it also in the Photoshop root folder. After you do the uninstall, ensure EToolBox.dll is not found in any of these locations. If not, then you should be good to go without seeing that error message. You might also double-check to ensure the actual plug-in files have been deleted, as maybe they’re still trying to get loaded and are calling for EToolBox.dll. If you don’t know what all to delete, you might simply try moving the Extensis folder out of the Plug-ins folder to some other drive location, boot PS7, and see if the error goes away. If it does, you’ll know something in the Extensis folder is still causing problems.

Regards,

Daryl

Dave and Daryl- Thanks Gentlemen!
I used a little from both of your suggestions and things are back to normal. I did manage to find an Extensis element that I did not delete… Then I went ahead with the re-install and it all seems to be rejuvenated.
RE- The AI question: I found the problem, and the error I made was so stupid that I’m too embarrassed to explan it! Apparently, a .dll file was mising from my cerebral cortex as well?!!?!
Thanks again for your time guys! The Adobe Forums are a God-send! D~

If you’re regularly using any Extensis software, it is advisable to locate a copy of EToolbox.dll in your plug-ins folder. Usually one will stray there anyway. It’s a sort of open-sesame key you need to have located there for all Extensis software.
