I am having trouble using mask pro 3.

I open a picture in photoshop CS, then choose filter > extensis > mask pro 3

Then I get a message that says "The mask cannot be stored in a color channel. Another channel must be active. A layer’s opacity, a layer mask, new channels and the quick mask can all be used. To add an opacity channel, double-click the Background layer in the Layers palette. OK

What does this mean? What do I do? I am new to Mask Pro & photoshop. Please help. Thank you.

You have insufficient knowledge of the concept of masking to continue without some lessons.

Bad news.

You’re attempting one of the hardest functions of Photoshop and Mask Pro won’t help you until you understand the process.

Thank you.

You’re welcome.

You just create a new layer then work on that, or double click on the background in the layers box and change the name.

You can stop acting like one any time you like.

I realize that you didn’t like the reality of the situation. That is no excuse to have a tantrum.

In maskPro 3 select, you can work immediately on the existing picture without getting involved in layers and channels. Just be aware that "maskPro" and PS "Extract" are similar in this method. You can get some quick and easy results but to actually be able to pull a bride’s veil from a background with any great success, needs years of practice with the tool. Hate to concede anything to an arsehole but Eric Gills is right (this time). Get some training or serious self help books. This is a most complex tool and definitely not for amateurs.

I was able to mask wind blown hair away from the background in about 5 mins after somebody told me how to get past that one error message. (drag the background layer down to the create new layer to create a copy of what I wanted to work on)

I’m not new to computers or graphics, just photoshop. I take back the comment, but…Hey isn’t this newsgroup to help others? Not criticize when one asks for help?
