I’ve had lousy luck with the clone stamp and bandage tools. Upgrading from 7.01 to 8.0 (Windows) hasn’t helped. Changing the mouse and the keyboard hasn’t helped. I do get results with the mouse on the Wacom tablet so it’s not a total loss, but I would still like to know why I can’t do things the simple way I’m used to.

What exactly is the problem in "non-luck-related" terms?

Sorry Norman, I just realized that this is a new post for your earlier problem that these tools stop working.

You’ve tried dumping your prefs, but get no response, correct?

Try a manual dump of your prefs through Explore. Right-click on your Start button, choose explore and navigate to the Adobe folder under Application Data. Go to the Photoshop folder and version folder and look for a file that ends in Prefs.psp. Delete it and re-launch Photoshop.

OK, Ill give it a shot, but I would remind you that I can’t get the clone stamp to work–on a just-installed copy of PS 8.

You might also try resetting the tool by right-clicking on the down-triangle hear the tool icon in the options bar (Top way left).

Another thing you might try, is copying the image to be cloned into a new layer (CTRL+J). I don’t know why, but it seems someone a while back else posted a similar problem and that this was the only way they could get it to work.

Have you recently installed MS Service Pack 2?
